Surrey Police: Surrey Snow 01/03/2018

Important Message from Surrey Police ...

It will not have escaped your attention that there is severe weather across Surrey! Parts of our county are experiencing heavy snowfall. Overnight we are expecting freezing conditions, and this is likely to lead to treacherous driving conditions tonight and into the morning.

Our colleagues at Surrey County Council and Highways England are working to keep the main roads as clear as possible, but the ground is so cold that the grit may not work as well as it does in warmer conditions.

Our advice if you are planning to travel is to prepare as much as possible - consider how you will get home as well as whether it is safe to make the outward journey, take supplies with you (blankets, liquids and food) in case you do get stuck and check the car is fully prepared (tyres, oil, battery and fuel - breakdowns are bad enough without being stuck in the cold temperatures too!). There is some really good advice on the RAC website: https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/winter-driving/Winter-breakdown-kit-checklist/

Contacting us
There is always an increase in calls to the Police when we have poor weather.

We will always prioritise the 999 emergency service, so you may experience an increased delay when calling us on 101. Before you call, please take a moment to consider if your call is a policing matter, and whether it is something we need to know about immediately. If it can wait, you may prefer to use online reporting service: https://www.surrey.police.uk/contact-us/report-online/

Rest assured, our officers are still out and about, keeping people safe, tackling crime and looking out for the community.

Stay warm, and look out for each other.

Ends ...
