Prestigious Award for Town Council
Horley Town Council has been awarded a prestigious award as part of the Local Council Awards Scheme. This achievement of Quality Status recognises that the Council achieves good practice in governance, community engagement, information technology and council improvement. Moreover, it shows that Horley Town Council goes above and beyond their legal obligations, leading its communities and continuously seeking opportunities to improve and develop even further.
The Awards Scheme report highlighted the Council's particular areas of strength including its services and engagement with its residents.
Horley Town Council's Mayor, Cllr Mike George said that he was delighted with the achievement of the Quality Award. He said "We are pleased to have been able to participate in the Local Councils Awards scheme, and to be the first Quality Award to be made in Surrey and Sussex. Councillors and staff have worked hard to achieve this award and we are very pleased to be able to celebrate the Quality award.”
In terms of the future, the Council is now reviewing ways in which it can keep on improving its services to the Horley community and welcomes input from local residents and partners on this. Horley Town Council and other local councils like it are at the front line of the government’s localism agenda and are doing as much as they can to deliver services whilst being efficient and cost-effective. Currently the Council provides a wide range of services and is working on a replacement Skate Park at the Horley Recreation Ground. Other major projects such as a cafe in the park are being planned. It has been awarded Silver Gilt awards in the South and South East in Bloom Competition for its parks and town centre for the past 5 years and takes great pride in keeping its parks and recreation areas to a high standard.
