River Mole Action Team Event

On Sunday 22nd March, a group of borough and town councillors got together with a group of Horley residents, with the aim of clearing rubbish from the river and river bank, and conducting a litter pick along the bank from the A23 to the furthest extent of the Court Lodge playing fields, and from the perimeter of Church Meadows. Items retrieved from the river included a huge tractor tyre and inner tube, a 40 gallon drum, a large section of plastic pipe, a road works barrier, several traffic cones, 3 chairs, miscellaneous discarded junk, plus 10 sacks of litter. Many items were weighed down with sludge.

The team work was exceptional, and we all ended up refreshing ourselves with beers and coffee in the Six Bells pub.

In the next 2 or 3 weeks, we will be replicating the exercise in order to clear other significant items from the river adjacent to the Court Lodge Playing fields. The purpose of the exercise is to clear the decks prior to eliminating the invasive species Himalayan Balsam from the river banks, thus opening access to the river for the enjoyment of fishermen and residents.

If interested in joining the task group please contact th eTown Council details.
