Local community groups in Horley benefit from fund

Raven Housing Trust and the Horley Evening Women’s Institute are the latest groups to be awarded grants from the Horley Edmonds Community Fund to fund sports equipment for local young people and opportunities for local women to meet together and develop new skills.

The local fund has been set up through the Community Foundation for Surrey to support community and voluntary groups in the area. The fund was established with a capital sum from a bequest to Horley Town Council by the late Cyril Edmonds, a well-known builder who lived in Norwood Hill. The fund provides Horley with a sustainable source of funding, making a significant contribution to the charitable needs of the community. Donations are welcome from local residents wishing to support local community and voluntary groups in the area. Previous grant awards include funding outings and support for older people, and volunteer home visits for vulnerable families in the area.

The Fund has been set up in partnership with the Community Foundation for Surrey which funds projects helping the most vulnerable and isolated individuals in Surrey’s communities. Thanks to the Community Foundation’s donors, grant awards support a range of projects that increase facilities and opportunities for young people, schemes that reduce isolation for older citizens, improving community focal points, support services for disadvantaged children and families, support for people with disabilities and/or mental ill health, arts and sports schemes as well as environmental projects.

The next deadline for applications from local community and voluntary groups for the Horley Edmonds Community Fund is the 8th March; however there are further opportunities to apply to the fund throughout the year.
