Horley Town Council Office Expansion and Sustainability Project Opening Delay
Horley Town Council has announced a short delay to the reopening of its newly extended and refurbished Council offices and Edmonds Community Hall, following the completion of an extension to the building and some internal remodelling.
The project, substantially covered from a generous grant from Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, through the Strategic CIL SIP 2 Scheme, is now virtually complete. However, a number of outstanding safety-related snagging issues have been identified that require resolution by the contractors before the building can be safely reopened to the public.
The decision has therefore been taken to postpone the reopening to ensure that the highest standards of safety and quality are met for all users of the community building.
We are pleased to confirm that staff have now returned to the building. The extension provides larger and vastly improved office space accommodation with enhanced facilities, to enable the Council team to deliver services effectively while supporting future growth and community needs. While the offices are now fully operational, the Edmonds Community Hall and extended areas must remain closed until all outstanding works have been completed and the whole building can be reopened to welcome hirers and visitors safely.
Council Chair, Cllr Lynnette Easterbrook commented:
"We appreciate that residents have been looking forward to the reopening of this important community facility and will be disappointed by this further delay. However, the safety of building users and staff must always come first.
While the remaining issues are relatively minor in the context of the overall project, they must be fully addressed and independently verified before we can responsibly reopen the building. We are working closely with our architects and contractors to ensure these matters are resolved as quickly as possible."
The contractors are in the process of completing all outstanding works with assurances that the building meets all required safety standards. We will continue to monitor progress closely, until these issues have been fully rectified.
The extended community building will complement the spacious community hall with a large multifunctional meeting room, modernised and fully accessible kitchen facilities and dedicated rest areas for staff and councillors. We remained committed to delivering a valuable community asset for local residents, businesses and organisations for generations to come.
The Council will announce a revised reopening date once all outstanding works have been completed and the building has passed final inspections.
We would like to thank residents, community groups and stakeholders for their patience, understanding and ongoing support as we move towards final completion of this exciting capital project.
