Horley Team Ministry Press Release

January 2026

The Lychgate of St Bartholomew's Church Horley RH6 8AB, within the Horley team Ministry, will benefit from a grant of £1830 from Grants for War Memorial scheme supported by Historic England.

The money will enable the missing cross to be replaced and the stonework to be repointed and in some cases replaced.

Those involved in the project are the Southwark Diocesan Advisory Committee, Horley Town Council, the Conservation Officer from Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and architect Andy Burrell. The repair was carried out by Clarke’s Roofing. Additional funding was also received from the Edmonds Fund through the Community Foundation for Surrey.

St Bartholomew’s, known as St Bart’s, is part of a strong ecumenical group of churches with the joint vision of bringing the Gospel of Christ to Horley and beyond. We are in the Deanery of Reigate in the Diocese of Southwark of the Church of England. The parish covers Horley town and Gatwick Airport. St Bartholomew’s serves the parish, alongside our sister churches of St Francis and St Wilfrid. We have a thriving church family across the parish and across all ages. We look forward to meeting you at any of our services.

Frances Moreton, Director, War Memorials Trust said, “The works supported by our grant will help preserve this war memorial for future generations. It will continue to act as a focal point for remembrance whilst also reminding us of the millions of lives ended, or impacted, by conflict with the hope of deterring future war.
Anyone concerned about any other war memorials that might need help should contact War Memorials Trust, or if you believe it is important to preserve our war memorial heritage please make a donation to help protect them.”
