Mayor at KSS Air Ambulance 'Restart a Heart' Day
Horley Town Mayor, Cllr Lynnette Easterbrook recently attended the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) Civic and Community Leaders’ Circle event at its Redhill Aerodrome base.
KSS Air Ambulance saves lives across the South East when every second counts. Every day, the charity’s helicopters bring the emergency room to the scene fast, delivering lifesaving care to those who suddenly become injured or critically ill, across Kent, Surrey, and Sussex 24/7, 365 days a year. Last year the charity made over 3,100 lifesaving missions, each one almost entirely funded by public support from across the region.
As part of its 'Restart a Heart Day' in October the charity are trying to raise awareness of the importance of as many people as possible being trained in the lifesaving skills of how to give CPR (CardioPulmonary Resuscitation) and using a defibrillator. You can sign up for a free CPR training session and learn how to save a life. Cllr Easterbrook and other attendees were able to try a CPR exercise under the guidance of the paramedics themselves at the event. Horley Town Council has actively supported the introduction of AED, Automatic Electronic Defibrillators, (defibs) in as many locations as possible in Horley. Early CPR and usage of a defib (when advised to by the Ambulance service) during a cardiac event can greatly increase a patient's chance of survival, so why not familiarise yourself where your closest defib unit is using the map on our website.
The Air ambulance service's extraordinary work is funded exclusively by donations.
