Network Rail - Emergency embankment stabilisation works

We wanted to inform residents of Horley that we will be delivering emergency embankment stabilisation works on the railway between Horley and Salfords, starting tonight, Friday 8 January to Tuesday 12 January.

Works will start at 23.45 tonight and run through to 04.00 next Tuesday. This will be 24 hour working.

The teams delivering the work will use Orchard Drive, Horley to set up a work site and access the railway via the public footpath, there will be traffic management in place. There will be significant noise because of the method of working used to stabilise the embankment. This will be hammering sheet piling in to the land that sits directly beside the railway to shore the embankment up.

The section of the embankment has shown significant movement and we have had to place a speed restriction of 5mph on this section of track. But this is not enough and yesterday we had to plan emergency works for this weekend to make sure the railway can operate safely again next week.

Machinery and vehicles will use the track access point at Three Bridges depot.

For those that are key workers and are reliant on public transport to get to work, there will be service alterations, please check your journey ahead of travelling at https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/.

If there are any issues with the work or concerns during the course of the work period – please contact our 24/7 National helpline on 03457 11 41 41 quoting Salfords Embankment Stabilisation Works.
