Re-Opening of Some Registrar Services

Surrey County Council Registration services reopening - births, deaths and marriages

Registration services planning to reopen and bookings being taken from 6 July – only in Guildford, Leatherhead and Weybridge.

Camberley and Reigate offices remain closed at this time for face to face appointments

Deaths

  • The law was changed to allow deaths to be registered remotely, so you can continue to register deaths over the phone

Births

  • You can make an appointment to register a birth at one of our open offices from 6 July
  • Please be patient – we have a large backlog of babies to register as offices have been closed due to coronavirus restrictions
  • Only one parent should attend the appointment if the child’s parents are married or in a civil partnership
  • Please do not bring other children or additional adults to the appointment, unless necessary

Giving notice of marriage or civil partnership

  • If you have a marriage or civil partnership booked in the next three months, book an appointment online from 6 July to give notice of marriage
  • Notice appointments will only be available at Guildford, Leatherhead and Weybridge Register Offices

Marriages and Civil Partnerships

  • The Government has announced that a maximum of 30 people can attend a marriage or civil partnership, where this can be safely accommodated with social distancing in a COVID secure venue
  • This number includes the couple themselves, the witnesses, two registrars and guests. It also includes any staff who are not employed by the venue, which may include photographers, security or caterers.
  • For ceremonies taking place at Register Office ceremony rooms – we can only accommodate an additional six guests at Guildford and Leatherhead, and an additional 4 guests at Weybridge
  • If the marriage or civil partnership is taking place at a licensed venue, please check with the venue to confirm their maximum capacity
  • It is advised that the ceremonies and services should be concluded in the shortest reasonable time. This means they will be limited as far as reasonably possible to the parts of the marriage or civil partnership that are required in order to be legally binding under the law of England and Wales.

Citizenship

  • We will start contacting new citizens from 6 July to book their citizenship ceremonies
  • Citizenship ceremonies will be restricted to the new citizens only
  • Citizenship ceremonies will take place at Weybridge Register Office
