Town Award presented to Mr Tom Anglim
Horley Town Council is delighted to announce that the prestigious Town Award was presented to worthy recipient Mr Tom Anglim at the recent Horley in Bloom Awards Evening, held at Regent Hall on Friday 2 October. (Picture attached.)
The award was presented by Town Mayor Cllr Simon Marshall, assisted by Cllr Richard Mantle, the Mayor of Reigate & Banstead. Cllr Marshall said, “I was very pleased and honoured to make this Award to Tom for all that he has done for the town and the community over many years. I feel that this was a well deserved award.”
A brief summary of the citation follows below:
Tom is a well known local figure and can always be seen in town in his bright yellow rocket shaped invalid car. He is always chatting to somebody and, despite his illness, spends a great deal of his time working for local organisations and charities. He also works at the Tadworth Court Children’s Hospital shop one day a week. After military service he joined Surrey Police at Guildford and later moved to Horley. In 1969 he attended the air crash at Fernhill and was subsequently awarded the Queen’s Award for Bravery. Tom has shown great courage and determination in the face of a painful and debilitating illness and gives his time freely and cheerfully to help others.
