South East in Bloom

We are delighted to announce that Horley won two awards at this year’s South & South East in Bloom Awards Ceremony. A Silver Gilt Award was won for Horley Recreation Ground and a Silver Award for the town centre. The awards were made primarily for the good quality of the hanging baskets and the standard of maintenance in the Memorial Gardens. The judges remarked that “Horley does very well with the resources available.”

Cllrs Simon Marshall, Town Mayor, and Jack Chapman, Chairman of the Leisure Committee, received the awards from the Blue Peter gardener, Chris Collins, at a special awards ceremony at the Grand Hotel, Brighton. Cllr Marshall said, “We take great pride in our town centre and green spaces and it is wonderful that we have improved on last year’s results. I would like to thank everyone who has worked so well to help us gain these awards.”

Overall six awards were won within the Borough of Reigate & Banstead. Cllr Julian Ellacott, Executive member for the Environment, said, “This is the third year that the Borough has triumphed at these awards and I am particularly pleased that Priory Park was the winner in its category”.

The Town Council will shortly be holding its own Awards Ceremony for the Horley in Bloom and other associated competitions. This is due to take place at Regent Hall on Friday 2 October.
