Town Mayor’s Charitable Fund

On Saturday 20 March, Councillor Simon Marshall, Chairman & Mayor of Horley Town Council, hosted a special curry evening at Horley Town Football Club, the proceeds from which will go to the Mayor’s two chosen charities, The Brambles Respite Care Centre and St Catherine’s Hospice.

This is the third time that Cllr Marshall has hosted such an event and this has been hailed as “the best one yet!” Guests of Honour included Councillor Richard Mantle, Mayor of Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, Councillor Jill Bray, Deputy Mayor of Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, Councillor Brenda Burgess, Mayor of Crawley Borough Council, Councillor Chris Thomas-Atkin, Chairman of Burgess Hill Town Council and Councillor Margaret Baker, Mayor of Haywards Heath Town Council. All were accompanied by friends and family and a number of former Mayors were also in attendance. Those present were able to enjoy the delights of delicious Indian cuisine and the event was a complete sell-out. During the evening, entertainment was supplied by Brambles Amateur Theatrical Society and the Vegas Knights.

The main aim of the event was to raise valuable funds for the two local charities. A raffle held during the evening raised over £750 and the evening ended with an exciting auction hosted by Sam Gyimah, the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the East Surrey Constituency, where generous bids made for some wonderful prizes totalled nearly £800. Cllr Simon Marshall was delighted with the evening and said, “I am so pleased that it was such a success and I am delighted that, once again we are able to support these two local charities in this way. I know all the guests enjoyed their evening immensely and I thank them all for attending. I would like to record my thanks to all those local companies and individuals who generously gave raffle and auction prizes and I would particularly like to thank Gatwick Airport Ltd for the wonderful donation of £500”.

As a result of the fundraising event, over £2,000 was raised, and this will be distributed between the two charities.
