Countdown to Countryside Food Festival

A packed programme of foodie treats and fun outdoor activities for all the family is planned for the Countryside Food Festival taking place at Priory Farm on Saturday, September 14.

Hosted by Nutfield-based Local Food Britain, the event will be raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support with a delicious larder of gourmet treats from local artisans, including vegan specialities, and the chance to pick up top tips from food experts.

There will be something for all the family with vintage tractors, classic cars, archery, spectacular displays from birds of prey, bee-keeping talks, and country craft skills. There will also be plenty of picnic spots around the venue to enjoy eating al fresco and sipping local beers, wines, gins and soft drinks. Yoga lovers will be invited to bring their mats for a guided outdoor session at the start of the festival.

Back by popular demand will be Bake with Jack who will be sharing his bread-making tips and beer-tastings with Crumbs Brewing.  Among the new live foodie chats will be `Curry in a Hurry’ by Mandira’s Kitchen and a demonstration on how to make vegan sushi from Surrey-based chef and supper club host Laura Scott.

Purveyors of creative open-fire cooking The Salt Box, which has also made its home in Nutfield, will be joining Dorking’s Hill House Farm for a farm to fork talk, and also hosting family workshops on the day.

BBC Radio Surrey will be broadcasting live from the festival, and there will be music from the Oxted Brass Band and acoustic street musicians.

A highlight of the event will be the judging of the Preserves with Passion competition. The winning jam, jelly or chutney will be recreated and packaged as a Limited Edition for the Bartie’s Sussex Faire range (a member of Local Food Britain), and all profits from its sale will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The festival will open at 10am until 5pm and there will be plenty of free parking. Entry is £3 per person (free for children aged under 12) which includes an optional 50p donation going to Macmillan Cancer Support.
